JAKARTA, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia's 23-year-old taekwondo athlete Defia Rosmaniar won the host's first gold medal at the 2018 Asian Games in women's individual poomsae competition Sunday.

In her debut at Asian Games, Defia defeated Iran's Marjan Salahshouri with a score of 8,690 points, claiming Indonesia's first ever taekwondo gold medal in the Asiad.

South Korea's Yun Ji-hye and Malaysian Yap Khim Wen won a bronze each.

Indonesian president Joko Widodo watched the show and congratulated her after the match.

Meanwhile, Widodo posted on his official tweeter account that Defia won the gold medal for Indonesian people, "Defia, the people of Indonesia are proud of you!"

Indonesia has set a target of reaching the top 10 or winning 16 gold medals in the Asiad which the country had hosted in 1962. Enditem
