DUBAI, May 27 (Xinhua) -- The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has accepted 17 Yemenis injured by Cyclone Mekunu for medical treatment in hospitals, UAE state news agency WAM reported Sunday.

The hospitalization order was issued by UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, WAM said.

The move is part of the UAE's "continuous support and its humanitarian efforts to support the Yemeni people, to alleviate their suffering and support them during the dire times being witnessed by the country," it added.

Meanwhile, the injured Yemenis hailed the UAE's humanitarian stance, and expressed appreciation for its active assistance since the first day the cyclone struck Yemen's Socotra island.

On Friday, an aid plane carrying 40 tonnes of humanitarian and food assistance, provided by the UAE, landed on the Socotra archipelago to support the cyclone-stricken islanders.
