VIENTIANE, March 17 (Xinhua) -- The Lao Ministry of Technology and Communications hosted a Government Data Exchange (GDX) seminar aimed at linking databases across ministries, supporting the government's drive to advance digital transformation.
The seminar took place here on Tuesday and was chaired by Lao Minister of Technology and Communications Santisouk Simmalavong, according to the ministry's report.
The seminar aligns with the national digital economy development plan and the government's broader strategy to modernize public administration, making it more transparent, efficient, and responsive. The GDX system is designed to integrate previously separate ministry databases, allowing seamless data exchange based on standardized protocols.
In his remarks, Santisouk emphasized that the GDX will serve as a secure, standardized bridge connecting all government databases in real time. He highlighted the system's role in creating a One-Stop Service platform, enabling citizens to access services online without repeatedly submitting documents.
He also urged ministries and agencies to prepare their internal databases to meet GDX standards, paving the way for a new era of digital government administration in Laos.
The Lao government has designated 2026 as a key year for digitalizing public administration, directing ministries and provincial authorities to lead reforms under the national roadmap. ■
