BUENOS AIRES, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- Boca Juniors ended the worst winless run in its history on Sunday with a 3-0 away victory over Independiente Rivadavia in Argentina's Primera Division Clausura tournament.
The host gifted Boca the lead on the half hour when Ezequiel Centurion inadvertently turned the ball into his own net.
Exequiel Zeballos and Alan Velasco then scored late goals as Boca secured its first win of the campaign.
The Buenos Aires giant, one of South America's most successful clubs, had not won any of its previous 12 games. The club's most recent victory had been a 2-0 win over Estudiantes on April 19.
"To win in this way is great because it lifts us in many ways," Boca manager Miguel Russo told a post-match news conference. "I'm happy for the players because they are happy. They needed something like this."
Boca is now 10th in the Primera Division's 15-team Group A with six points, four behind leader Barracas Central.
Elsewhere on Sunday, Defensa y Justicia was held to a 1-1 home draw by Newell's Old Boys, Lanus won 2-1 at Gimnasia, Central Cordoba drew 1-1 at home to Barracas, Banfield prevailed 3-2 at home to Estudiantes, and River Plate eased to a 4-2 home win over Godoy Cruz. ■
