ANKARA, July 3 (Xinhua) -- Türkiye's annual consumer inflation eased more than anticipated in June, slowing to 35.05 percent, according to official data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute on Thursday.

The monthly inflation rate for June also came in lower than forecasts, at 1.37 percent, the data showed.

The figures mark a continued moderation from May, when annual inflation stood at 35.41 percent and monthly inflation at 1.53 percent.

Türkiye has been grappling with rising inflation for years. High inflation and the depreciation of the national currency have brought hardships for most households in the country.

The Turkish government has been implementing tight monetary policies and structural reforms over economic challenges marked by high inflation and currency volatility.

In mid-2023, Türkiye shifted away from its unconventional policy of keeping interest rates artificially low despite surging inflation, adopting a more stringent monetary policy that has since helped reduce inflation.
